BREXIT

As of the 1st January 2021 the UK left the EU bringing along many changes in which we import and export our products.

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR YOU?

Under the current agreement our products that are imported have additional border charges and customs checks, this unfortunately means prices of products will be increased to cover additional costs. At Babez we understand the importance on keeping prices to a minimum, so every effort has been made to keep these as low as possible. With additional paperwork needed now at the borders it means deliveries of stock coming into the country are subject to unexpected delays. We therefore ask for your patience when waiting for any pre-ordered stock. Customers purchasing from us in England, Scotland and Wales should not see many other changes when purchasing from us.

Customers purchasing from Northern Ireland

Due to the nature of Northern Ireland’s border with Ireland it means although Northern Ireland is part of the UK there are some changes. Some couriers are charging ‘Border Fees’ once the goods leave England, these fees will be accounted for with an increase in shipping costs. Again, we will endeavour to keep this as low as possible. Transit times will be affected with no next day service on offer. All goods entering Northern Ireland will need to be declared when they arrive by yourselves. VAT charges will remain the same with no duties.

Customers purchasing from the EU

Now we have left the EU importing goods from the UK has now changed. Goods leaving the UK will now be subject to customs clearance. To reflect the additional paperwork needed couriers will be charging a UK border clearance fee, to cover this fee the amount will be added to the overall shipping cost at checkout. We will endeavour to keep this to a minimal increase.

We will be using the courier service provided by DPD to export your orders to you (please see delivery page for exceptions). This means parcels will be travelling through VAT clusters through out Europe. By travelling through these clusters your goods can be cleared at a standard 20% vat rate for many customers. Please see the below table to find out how much vat you will be paying. .

All customers in the EU must provide us with their EORI number for shipping. If you add this to the notes section of your account it will speed up the import process at your countries customs.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Once we dispatch your goods, they will travel to a Brexit hub to make sure all paperwork is correct. Once they have been approved, they will travel through customs and exit the UK. Once the goods arrive at their destination country they will be held until the VAT, admin charge (see table) and duties are paid to your government. You will be contacted by customs authorities to pay these. Once these have been paid your goods will be released. The below table also shows how many days DPD will hold your goods for, giving you time to pay.

Please note it is the customers responsibility to pay the VAT and duties on their purchases. Payment refusal of VAT and duties can also lead to additional charges from the courier. Any goods ‘returned to sender’ due to payment refusal will also incur further charges. Any such charges will be reflected in any refunds given.

HOW ARE THE CUSTOMS CHARGES CALCULATED?

Orders placed below £135 will not be subject to duties but will be subject to VAT.

Duties for clothing manufactured in China are charged at 12%.

Clothing manufactured in the UK & EU have zero duties. Please look out for styles marked as ‘made in Italy’ and ‘made in the UK’.

HOW MUCH DO I HAVE TO PAY?

Here is an example to show you how the charges are calculated and how much you would pay. We have used an order placed in Austria as an example.

Customs charges example for Austria:

If your order value is £1000 & your Shipping value is £20

Duties are calculated at (12% of £1020) = £122.40

VAT charged (20% of £1020 + £122.40) = £228.48

So for a £1000 order and shipping charged at £20:

Duties to be paid are £122.40

VAT to be paid £228.48

There will also be a small admin charge. Please note that all charges are made in Euros and therefore they are subject to the exchange rate on the day.

If you have any questions regarding the import of your goods, please send them to orders@babezlondon.com where they will be forwarded on to the relevant member of the team.
